Albert H. Schmitt Family Farms has been a family farm for many decades. The current business is a compilation of Albie and Dottie Schmitt. Located on 6 Bagatelle Road, the original crop was potatoes. As the Long Island Expressway came through, it cut the farm in half. Eventually, development muscled in on the farm. Still in all, farming is still maintained by the propagation of annuals and perennials in a business that started with a small greenhouse to the current greenhouse menagerie today.

Bayport Flower House
BAYPORT FLOWER HOUSES began as a wholesale carnation grower, selling to the New York City market, under the management of Maria & Paul Auwaerter. In the 1930s, while the carnation crops were being harvested many of the stems would break off short. Today, over 80 years later – Bayport Flower Houses is still under the management of the Auwaerter family. Maria and Paul’s grandchildren, Karl Auwaerter and Christine Saroka, head up a dedicated team of horticulturists and floral designers providing the local communities with the beauty of flowers & plants. So stop by Bayport Flower Houses’ and take some time to stroll through our shop – both inside and out, it’s the only way to see first hand the new and exciting!

Our garden center and plant nursery began in 2009 and has grown in to one of Long Island’s favorite garden center and nursery destinations, helped by the purchase of Stables Garden Center of East Moriches in 2015. Carlton Ave Farms is a neighborhood farm. In our farm our customers can find a large variety of herbs, flowering plants annuals and perennials, rare varieties of plants, and fresh home grown produce.
